Warwick HRI has been given a boost with a £3.7 million package of support from the University of Warwick.
The university has re-confirmed its commitment to HRI, and the money will be used for the refurbishment and consolidation of laboratories and offices at Warwick HRI Wellesbourne.
The funding has been secured through the Science Research Infrastructure Fund (SRIF).
Professor David VandeLinde, vice chancellor of the university, said: “This major investment shows the University of Warwick’s clear commitment to the future of Warwick HRI.”
He said that in the 15 months since it joined the university, Warwick HRI has proven to be a valuable addition to its science capability, with a unique mix of basic, strategic and applied horticultural research.
The funding will allow the organisation to redefine the physical layout of its buildings and foster a new culture of interdisciplinary research in diversified areas.
The SRIF funding was only accessible to Warwick HRI because of its status as a department of the University of Warwick.
Professor Simon Bright, director and head of department at Warwick HRI thanked the university for its ongoing commitment.
“With an annual income of £15 million, Warwick HRI is a significant contributor to the university’s science research. This funding will allow us to revitalise our research environment, offering significant opportunities for new research collaborations by promoting the links between fundamental and applied research.”
