This year’s International Horti Fair in Amsterdam, which was held from October 9-12, confirmed its top position as a leading horticultural showcase and attracted 46,846 horticultural professionals from 108 countries.

Horti Fair director Wim van der Loo said: “Bringing forward the fair from November to October has worked out very well. The Horti Fair is the international showcase for the introduction of new products and services and is making an even greater contribution to the exchange of know-how.”

A total of 985 firms from 51 countries took part in Horti Fair - and most noted that the quality of the trade visitors was higher than ever. Success was achieved by the clearer segmentation, earlier exhibition period and greater focus on innovations and exchange of know-how.

According to a visitor survey, more than 80 per cent of the visitors indicated during the fair that they would visit the Horti Fair again in 2008. Also, more than a quarter of the visitors came to the Horti Fair with definite plans for purchases and actually requested a quotation or made a specific purchase.

Koppert Biological Systems’ Enzicur product won the Horti Fair Innovation Award at the show. Gerda Verburg, minister of agriculture, nature and food quality, presented the award during the official opening of the Horti Fair. The other category winners were the ‘fully automated chrysanthemum growing process, from cutting to harvested crop’ of Logiqs Agro BV and the ‘Anthurium Black Queen’ of Rijnplant. The winners were chosen from almost 400 new products and services.

The Horti Fair 2008 will be held in the Amsterdam RAI Exhibition Centre, October 14-17.
