The Higgins Group has achieved national listings for two of its new potato varieties.

The market has now given its seal of approval because demand has exceeded expectation for Horizon and Pearl, the two new varieties.

Horizon is a crisping variety with high resistance to powdery scab and blackleg and has a 10 per cent higher yield than its nearest competitors.

Meanwhile, Pearl is a salad variety under development since 1991. Pearl has attributes in terms of taste and high yield, which are uncommon in other salad varieties.

Managing director of the Higgins Group, David Higgins said: 'These two varieties are proving to be a resounding success with both our growers and customers. Its international reputation for excellence continues to grow, as is borne out by the demand for its two new seed varieties.'
