A new ethylene-absorbing patch could help extend the shelf-life of packaged fresh produce.

That's how UK-based food packaging development company Sirane views the launch of its latest cost-effective ‘patch’, which the firm says traps the ethylene, and slows down the degradation process of fruit and vegetables.

The Dri-Fresh® Fresh-Hold™ EA labels are a small patch, which can be almost hidden if need be, that attracts and absorbs the ethylene release by the produce within.

The odour-absorbing patch can easily be integrated with any type of packaging, be it pads, bags, films or cartons/trays, and can be customised to meet specific requirements.

Items that produce a lot of ethylene includes apricots, avocados, bananas, melons, kiwi fruits, mangoes, nectarines, papaya, peaches, pears, plums and tomatoes.
