Metcalfe Organic of Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire, has completed the upgrade of its dedicated organic processing and pre-packing facility at Low House Farm.

A larger Boema continuous peeler has been installed and the product flow re-designed allowing far greater flexibility of operation, the company reports. Peeled potatoes and peeled and prepared carrots can be supplied for further pre-packing or to manufacturers as required in bags or bulk from the high care preparation area.

Installation of a new Haith vegetable peeler is underway, ready to wash and polish potatoes and carrots feeding into the new Ishida/GIC VFFS weighing bagging combination.

“The most important consideration when planning the improvements to the packing and processing lines was the ability to have highly flexible lines,” said manager Mark Palmer.

“We believe to supply into the organic market we can offer the specialist expertise the produce requires. Added to that we are fully BRC, Soil Association and Assured Produce accredited, meeting the due diligence requirements of customers.”
