Contact herbicide Basta has been replaced by Harvest, a dual-purpose contact herbicide and desiccation product for weed control in potatoes.

Harvest is a like-for-like replacement containing the same concentration of active ingredient glufosinate-ammonium. For weed control it should be used in precisely the same way as Basta was, according to BayerCropscience.

BayerCropscience's Neil Thompson said: “Of the three contact options [Harvest] is the most effective, particularly against annual meadow grass. It also offers broad-spectrum control of all the main arable broad-leaved weeds and has useful dose rate flexibility.

“The maximum individual dose of three L/ha should only be needed to tackle a full spectrum of grass-weeds and broad-leaved weeds, or where grass-weeds have reached four true leaves,” he said. “In typical annual meadow grass and broad-leaved weed situations, or when tank mixed with a residual partner - as is common practice now - two l/ha should be sufficient.”

For combined contact and residual control, Bayer recommends tank-mixing Harvest with Artist or Sencorex WG.
