Herbfresh coriander harvest is under way

A warm, dry spring so far in the Thames Valley has given Surrey-based Herbfresh its earliest ever start for its UK-grown fresh herb crops. Lucy Wiggins, sales and procurement manager, said: “We look forward to more home-grown herbs for the coming season, due to our recent expansion into protected cropping through a combination of polytunnels and glasshouse production.” Harvesting has already begun for coriander, mint, tarragon, flat and curly parsley, and dill is expected early next month. The rest of the range, including chives, basil, oregano, thyme and lemon thyme, will come on stream in June.

Grower John Emmett said: “The over-wintered coriander has come out of the harsh winter well, we are now irrigating heavily to continue spring crop continuity. UK rosemary production on the other hand will be down following damage from the cold spell over the Christmas period."
