Herbert Industrial has solved a dilemma for leek supplier Simms and Woods, installing special labelling equipment to produce a specific font required by its customer, Morrisons, within 24 hours.
Simms and Woods did not have the facilities to produce labels with the special Windows font, Barmeno, font required by Morrisons - one of its major customers.
But Herbert Industrial was able to adapt and install equipment at the company’s premises - within 24 hours of the request.
Graham Flitton, Herbert’s production manager, said: “We had just a day to turn everything around - adapting one of our Gemini weigh price labellers for the leek packs and enabling it to print the labels in the right font. But we had the whole system installed in the customer’s premises on time and that’s a real tribute to our team here.”
“Some parts had to be fabricated that day. We set the machine up and the customer came over with his box of leeks to test it. We were in fax contact with Morrisons to make sure the labels were what they wanted and then we had a trial on the ‘race track’ and everything went as sweet as a nut,” Herbert’s product manager Graham Dorney, added.
