Israeli frozen herb specialist Dorot Garlic & Herbs has won a contract to supply Sainsbury’s.

Owned and operated by Kibbutz Dorot in the northern Negev in Israel, the company will supply its whole range to the retailer’s 400 outlets, all packaged in bespoke trays.

Udi Yosha¸ Dorot’s deputy marketing and sales manager, said that the deal with Sainsbury’s is worth $1 million “to start with”, and is the largest his company has signed with any retail outlet.

Dorot’s range features trays of frozen basil, garlic, ginger, coriander, dill and parsley. The trays have an unusually long shelf-life of up to 18 months and are easy-to-use for cooking and flavouring.

Yosha added that Dorot’s products do not contain any artificial preservatives, and have not been cooked, thus maintaining their high nutritional value. He expects the company’s exports to reach 40 per cent of its total sales.
