Four producers have made the fresh produce category shortlist of this year’s Heart of England fine foods (HEFF) Diamond Awards.

Four producers with six products have been shortlisted in the fresh produce category, sponsored by RDW Exhibitions.

R & RW Bartlett in Staffordshire is up for its British Parsnips as well as Clives Fruit Farm, Worcestershire, with its Elsanta strawberries and also its Hertford cherries and Aconbury Sprouts of Herefordshire, with its Rainbow Salad.

Regional NFU horticulture chairman Anthony Snell’s business AJ & CI Snell is also nominated with its Jubilee strawberries and its Maravilla raspberries.

This is the fourth annual Diamond Awards from HEFF, the food group for the heart of England, which celebrates the best of local food and drink from across Staffordshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire and Birmingham and the Black Country.

Judging for the fresh produce category takes place at various intervals across the year to account for seasonality.

The winners will be revealed at the Diamond Awards Gala Dinner which will take place on 21 May at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole. The winners of each product category will go head-to-head to win the highly coveted Special Diamond Award for taste which will be the final award to be presented on the night.

The evening will be hosted by BBC Midlands Today’s Suzanne Virdee.
