HDRA, the Organic Organisation, will host the NIAB organic vegetable variety open day, which will take place at Ryton Organic Gardens near Coventry on December 3.

The event will focus on organic seeds and variety selection. The organic seed issue is a crucial one for growers as Europe attempts to move towards 100 per cent organic seed usage. Rob Haward from the Soil Association will outline what the requirements will be for growers under the new regulations.

Growers will also be able to discuss how variety research can meet growers needs and how growers knowledge on variety performance can best be tapped. Research on organic seed production from HRI will be presented and the opportunities for farmers to produce organic seed.
