The regularly updated guide will help growers cope with the results of ongoing reviews into pesticide use, which are threatening up to half of the active ingredients available to them to protect their crops.

The analysis is available under crop protection at www.soilassociation.org.uk and summarises existing and future gaps in the armoury accessible to growers. HDC will also be communicating with researchers about the results with a view to identifying solutions. 'This is an invaluable tool for the horticultural industry,' said HDC technical manager Emma Garrod. 'It is imperative that the industry is fully aware of the threats heading our way in order that we can work on possible solutions together.' The critical gaps requiring urgent attention are summarised for 34 major crops. The analysis also features tables listing prioritised pest, disease and weed problems for each crop and its pesticide approval status.

The analysis is free to members.
