Hass sendings will fall

The Chilean Hass Avocado Association has announced that this year’s crop is expected to be almost halved by cold weather and snow in July. Exports are therefore also likely to down 50 per cent from last season’s total of 165,000t to 88,000t.

Adolfo Ochagavía, president of the Chilean Hass Avocado Association, said: “When we started shipments of Hass to the US, prices were very good, and rose to a peak average of $40 for a 25lb case in the week commencing August 20 However, since then, prices have fallen to an average $29.25 for a case, as the Mexican avocado season has reached the high season period and increased supplies. This is better than for the same period last year - when prices were $18.18 on average for a case.

“Volumes of Chilean Hass avocados are down on last year, but as usual we have ensured that the shipments we are making will be of the best quality. Chile won’t give up and do the very best for its customers, who are willing to pay for very high quality fruit.”
