Hadlow College is to host an event focussing on food security as it looks to bring people into the horticulture industry.

The Kent educational college will host an evening aimed at discussing the issue and displaying its courses on 10 February.

The event is aimed at young people looking to get into the industry, people looking for a change in career, those made redundant and members of the media.

The college said: “Global population is expected to reach in excess of nine billion by 2050. It is currently somewhat over six billion - so, 50 per cent more people to feed. There is a desperate need for new entrants to the horticulture and agriculture industries.

“In this country alone the statisticians predict vast skill shortages - and this is a worldwide phenomenon.”
