Hadlow College is to host a meeting to look at the ways UK farming can capitalise on the need to increase yields in the coming years.

The land-based college is inviting anyone interested in making a career in farming to attend an informal meeting on December 2 at 6pm.

Subjects on the agenda include climate change, food security and tackling energy usage.

The invitation is extended to people who left the industry but now “seek opportunity to benefit from the farming revival”.

The invitation applies to those who have been made redundant and are looking for a possible change in career direction.

Young people who currently may know very little about what the farming industries offer in terms of career progression are also encouraged to attend.

The evening will include information about the government-funded Fresh Start initiative and there will be an opportunity to discuss a wide variety of other training programmes, including degrees.

Guests will include practising farmers, current students, ex-students working in the industry and other key stakeholders. The programme will include a number of short, informative presentations

The evening, which commences with a buffet, presents an opportunity to discuss what is happening in the industry now, what must happen in the future and what new opportunities are emerging.
