Pupils at an inner-city secondary school are to sell their home-grown vegetables to a celebrity chef’s London restaurant.
East London’s Petchey Academy in Hackney will soon be supplying Urban Chef Oliver Rowe’s Konstam at the Prince Albert restaurant, in King’s Cross, from its organic garden, which has been operating for about a year and produces courgettes, potatoes and pumpkins, among other things.
Konstam featured on BBC 2’s The Urban Chef and has become famous for sourcing its produce within the M25. The restaurant is responsible for dishes such as East Ham mushrooms, Canvey sole and Norbury blue cheese.
The Petchey Academy is one of 1,000 schools that works with the Food for Life Partnership to inspire their pupils to care about the food they eat by getting them growing and cooking organic produce, visiting farms and eating climate-friendly meals.
