Gutsy new image for Jack Buck

The site details a host of recipes featuring core product lines chicory and celeriac that have been specially created by TV chef Rachel Green.

Heavy on style and innovation, the new portal also shows mouth-watering pictures of Green’s creations by Nikon award-winning photographer Michael Powell.

As well as recipes, Jack Buck has included nutritional facts and useful tips on celeriac, chicory, fennel, pak choi, radicchio and artichokes and a download section for recipes, articles and other information.

The company has been promoting the digestive benefits of chicory to mark National Gut Week, from August 21-27.

According to Jack Buck, while consumers spend around £2 a week on pre and probiotic drinks to top up their intake of “friendly” bacteria, they could be getting more benefit and spending less by eating chicory.

A spokesman for the company said: “What most people do not know is that the supplement added [to pre- and probiotic drinks] is usually lactofrasilite extracted from the chicory plant. Inulin is a carbohydrate like starch.

“However, it is not digested like starch but fermented in the gut, naturally promoting the growth of the good bacteria like bifidobacteria in the place where they are needed.”

Rich in dietary fibre, chicory contributes to a healthy gut flora and it is one few plants - along with dahlias, sunflower and Jersualem artichokes - that produce inulin instead of starch.
