Sarah Dawson NFU

Brassica grower Sarah Dawson is one of six re-standing for nomination to the horticulture and potatoes board

The NFU horticulture and potatoes board is seeking six members for a two-year term beginning March 2014.

Board members’ duties include attending all NFU national and regional board meetings and being a recognised regional spokesperson on key policy issues.

They must also develop relationships with representatives of the industry and supply chain and ensure that policy decisions taken by the NFU horticulture and potatoes board are communicated properly to members in each region.

In addition all members are expected to be computer literate and have regular access to a computer as all correspondence is done electronically.

The appointment process closes at midday on Friday 24 January. Successful candidates will be notified by email and writing by 10 March.

The first board meeting is 25 March at the NFU’s Stoneleigh headquarters. All applicants must ensure that they are available to attend on this date.

The board has ten nominated members with a rolling process of annual appointments to allow continuity as well as encourage new members to join.

The six members of the board who are seeking re-nomination include brassica grower Sarah Dawson, soft-fruit grower Anthony Snell, hardy nursery stock grower Tim Edwards, field vegetable grower Guy Poskitt, hops and apples producer Ali Capper, seed potato grower Walter Simon and protected edibles producer Paul Simmonds.

Selection is based on the best person for the job as well as the need for a balanced representation of the major crop sector interests and geographical coverage.

NFU members who would like to apply for a post should send a nomination supported by 20 signatures of other NFU members, as well as a CV.

Entries should be sent to chief horticulture and potatoes adviser Hayley Campbell-Gibbons at Agriculture House, Stoneleigh Park, Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, CV8 2LZ.
