The initiative, following EU legislation and developed by the agency in partnership with local authorities, growers and farmers, involves membership of a recognised farm assurance scheme. This will mean a lower frequency of food hygiene inspections, thereby reducing burdens on that business and benefiting farmers, local authorities, and consumers.

As a result of these changes, membership of farm assurance schemes will drive inspection frequency and spotlight farming sectors identified as having a higher food-safety risk.
