Fresh potato business Greenvale has landed a prestigious Tesco award for its green credentials.

The large-scale supplier was presented with the Best Carbon Reduction Strategy award in the Greening Our Supply Chain Awards at the IGD Tesco Trade Briefing earlier this month.

The gong was awarded in recognition of Greenvale’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact, including the achievement of its ISO14001 Environmental Management certification and the creation of its own environmental strategy called Green 15, which aims to reduce the company’s carbon footprint by 20 per cent, its water use by 50 per cemt and eliminate waste going to landfill by 2015.

Greenvale‘s plan to achieve these targets includes the use of renewable energy schemes, LED lighting, staff awareness campaigns and training, water recycling and a new waste management strategy.

The firm is also encouraging staff to think about the environmental impacts of their lives away from work, maximising the effect the campaign can have.

Jessica Cranthorne, environmental manager at Greenvale AP, said: “We are delighted to have received such an accolade for Green15. Everyone at Greenvale AP is committed to making our business truly ‘green’, and we are looking forward to many more environmental improvements before the end of 2015.”
