Fresh potato supplier Greenvale AP has been granted planning permission to generate wind energy at its site in March in Cambridgeshire.

With a high energy usage and over 300 people employed at the site, the Greenvale project is ideally placed to benefit from on-site generation. It is hoped the 2MW wind turbine will supply the site with stable-priced electricity for years to come.

The commercial-scale wind project is being developed by on-site renewables specialist Wind Direct, which has taken the site through planning and will now go on to fund, install and operate the project on behalf of Greenvale.

Construction is expected to begin in December once the planning conditions have been met.

A spokesperson for Greenvale said it is great news for Greenvale and the environment.

“We have our own policy aimed at reducing the varied environmental impacts that arise from our activities, and the planned installation of the Wind Direct turbine will go a long way towards reaching our targets.”

Frances Karki, Chief Operating Officer for Wind Direct said that, in granting planning permission, Fenland District Council has essentially approved a project that will protect jobs in the area, adding to the sustainability of the Greenvale business.
