One of the UK’s largest potato handlers, Greenvale AP Ltd, has acquired 100 per cent of the share capital of Swancote Foods Ltd.

A potato processing business based in the West Midlands, Swancote Foods supplies the convenience, ready meal and food ingredients markets.

Under Greenvale ownership, the firm will continue to serve all existing customers with high-quality potato products, and enhance its product offering through Greenvale’s extensive new product development programme.

The business will continue to trade under the Swancote Food name, and the existing management team will remain in place. Edward Davies, chief executive at Swancote will continue to lead the business, having committed to its future for a number of years.

Greenvale chief executive Angus Armstrong said: “We believe that this is a very positive and exciting move that is entirely complementary to both businesses. Swancote Foods is a top-quality operation and we look forward to welcoming the business into the Greenvale group. The benefits of such an acquisition flow in both directions and it is my firm belief that both businesses will be in a stronger position to meet the future challenges of the industry.”

Davies of Swancote explained: “The acquisition will further cement Swancote Foods as a leading potato processor in the food industry. Greenvale’s strong procurement and development of new varieties will dovetail well with us to deliver real benefits to our customer base. The deal will provide for further levels of investment in our business, which will help expand our product range to the marketplace. Exciting times lie ahead for all those involved with the new businesses.”
