Greenery growers join up

The theme of the day this year was globalisation. “The Greenery is no longer a local player but a company of global proportions,” said general director Philip Smits in his introductory speech.

“The Greenery is unique in the world. Premium quality Dutch produce is complemented by The Greenery with produce sourced from all over the world, so we can offer a comprehensive package year round.”

Among the speakers was Luc Clerx from New Zealand kiwifruit exporter Zespri, who underlined the partnership between The Greenery, which is Europe’s leading distributor of NZ kiwifruit, and Zespri.

Delegates also heard about an emerging trend at The Greenery. Local for Local is an initiative through which the company tries to limit food miles, for example in the sale of UK-grown salads to the UK market.
