Greenery brings new starfruit to market

The Greenery’s importer Hagé International will be introducing an exotic ready-to-eat product, Carambola Gold starfruit, this week.

The Carambola Gold is a sweet and fresh-tasting golden-skinned variety of the well-known green starfruit.

Hagé International will be the first to introduce the new Carambola variety on the European market. The company will be launching the new product in collaboration with John Sallouti, a Brazilian supplier with whom it has been working together for a number of years.

In preparation for the launch of the ready-to-eat product, tests were performed in the past few months on the taste, quality and perishability of the fruit, and logistics processes were optimised as well.

The Carambola will be available for purchase in a duo pack, although alternative packaging and packaging methods will also be offered.

The Carambola Gold was discovered by John Sallouti in 1997, who accidentally came upon two wild Carambola trees in a corner of his own garden. As opposed to other starfruit trees, these trees had golden fruit instead of green hanging from their boughs.

The grower has since improved and propagated the Carambola Gold on a large scale. Starting this week, they will be available year round from Hagé International.
