The founder and managing director of Greencell Limited has announced he is retiring after more than 25 years in the fresh produce business.

Henri Lambriex started the fruit and vegetable supply firm in June 1999 after 15 years spent developing his knowledge and understanding of the industry.

He led a management buyout in April 2000 and led Greencell to become one of the most successful fresh produce companies in the UK.

It sells over 600 million packages every year, has more than 200 customers and imports fruit from over 30 countries in all five continents.

In 2008, Greencell was bought by international fresh produce distributor Westfalia.

Lambriex said the takeover by Westfalia, which is part of the Hans Merensky Group based in South Africa, would take growth “to the next level”.

He moved up within the Hens Merensky Organisation to become CEO of Westfalia Europe.
