The International Green Week Berlin will open its doors for the 73rd time on January 18.

Since 1926, the event has attracted some 72,000 exhibitors and 29 million visitors since 1926, establishing itself amongst the oldest trade fairs in the German capital

From being purely a local event, it has now become an international trade fair for the food industry, agriculture and horticulture, attracting hundreds of thousands of consumers every year, and exhibitors from every continent.

The fair survived and thrived even during the years when the Berlin Wall cut much of the city and its inhabitants off from the western world, and underwent a revival in 1990, following German reunification,

An expansive supporting programme is now available to all those participating in the Green Week, with over 250 papers, seminars and symposiums, including the International Agricultural Policy Forum held by the German Farmers’ Association DBV, and the East-West Agricultural Forum from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.

Held at Messe Berlin, Green Week was the first home of Fruit Logistica, which has grown to become a separate offering since 2004

The International Green Week Berlin 2008 will take place from January 18 to 27, with displays representing all areas of the food industry, agriculture and horticulture. As the successor to the East-West Agricultural Forum, in 2008 the International Conference of the Ministers of Agriculture (January 19) will debate global agricultural policies. One of the new trade fair sections will be nature.tec, a special event with a focus on bio-energy and renewable raw materials. Switzerland will be the partner country at the International Green Week 2008.
