The Eden Project

The Eden Project hasbeen given a government grant to develop trade links to benefit our health, and the African economy.

This includes continuing its development of native Africa 'superfruit', the baobab - which comes from one of the most iconic trees in Africa, with a trunk that can grow to huge proportions.

Tracey Smith, at the Eden Project, in Cornwall, said: 'Now what we need to do is make people aware of baobab as a super fruit. It is so good for you.A daily dose of baobab can give you 33 per cent of the fibre you need, it's got six times more calcium than milk, it's packed full of vitamin C and it tastes really nice as well.It is used as a flavouring in powdered form, and Eden will also be selling baobab chocolate bars.'

The grant cash will be used to provide better schools and housing in Africa, and will do so for many years.

The Eden Project is staging a number of baobab-based events in the coming months to introduce the UK to a fruit that has been a favourite in Africa for thousands of years.
