A management buy-out on Glasgow wholesale market has seen Graham Nicol & Dow change hands.
Managing director Graham Grant took over the company, which now leaves the Pilmuir Holdings Group, on 1 July.
The Blochairn Road business now counts Grant, alongside Douglas Scott and Frank McGinty, as its board members controlling the firm of 12 staff.
Pilmuir Holdings, also based on the market, now consists of prepared salad business Presalco, Fruvegco, hotel and restaurant supplier Macdonald & Murdoch and the Italian Coffee Bean Company.
Grant told FPJ: “The split was very amicable. We simply decided that we want to focus on import and wholesale and did not want to start deliveries where we risk chasing after our own customers’ customers. We see a good, healthy future in the wholesale market.
“Over the last five or six years, there has been a real drive in wholesaling towards quality and away from bargain lines that do not give you 100 per cent usage from the product. We are looking for product that is equal to or better than at supermarkets on quality.”
Grant said he is pleased with the redevelopment of the market by City Markets (Glasgow) LLP which is all but complete.
“All the items are complete cosmetically and system-wise and I think we are pretty lucky that the council have invested in a 40-year old market.”
