Good Natured Fruit gets double honour

An innovative range of strawberries and raspberries grown without the use of pesticides by Scottish grower Angus Soft Fruits scooped both the Supreme Award and the Retail - Fruit or Vegetable Category Award at the Scotland Food & Drink Awards in Edinburgh.

First Minister Alex Salmond presented the two awards for the Good Natured Fruit brand at a gala dinner attended by 300 guests from the food and drink industry.

The awards are widely recognised in the Scottish food and drink industry, with 16 award categories.

Angus Soft Fruits developed the Good Natured Fruit method of growing berries in response to growing consumer and retailer concerns over pesticide residues on fruit. The approach uses a combination of traditional farming practices and new technology to offer a pesticide-free option to all consumers, at affordable prices.

The Scotland-based supplier oversees all stages of the growing process from plant selection, through harvesting to final product quality control and brand identity, with the aim of setting it apart from supermarket private label produce.

John Gray, commercial director of Angus Soft Fruits, who received the awards, said: “Angus Soft Fruits is delighted that its Good Natured Fruit brand has won both the Retail - Fruit or Vegetable Award and the Supreme Award at the Scotland Food and Drink Excellence Awards.

“The awards showcase and celebrate the very best of Scottish food and drink and provide real credibility and prestige for the Good Natured Fruit brand, so we are delighted with the accolades.”
