South African Goldens are launching Golden Apple Awards for top teachers as part of its first UK consumer campaign.
The promotion will run on Somerfield packs.
The winning teacher will enjoy a family trip to South Africa, and their nominator will receive an annual pass to Tussaud’s Group, a year’s supply South African Arniston Bay wine and £100 worth of Somerfield vouchers.
The competition has been designed to underline the popularity of South African Goldens among children. This preference was discovered last year when growers undertook a major consumer research study in UK with the South African Department of Trade and Industry.
The National Diet and Nutrition Survey of Young People showed that the average British boy eats the equivalent of 21 teaspoons of sugar each day, while girls consume an amount equal to 17 teaspoons.
But a Golden Delicious apple a day can satisfy a child’s sweet tooth as an alternative to sweets, biscuits and fizzy drinks, according to South African Goldens.
