Gold for Best of British at Chelsea

Produce from British NFU growers took the President's Award in the Royal Pavilion at Chelsea.

The best of British food growing found its way onto 25 galvanised steel cubes at Chelsea. In conjunction with the NFU, National Savings & Investment showcased its starkly futuristic display in Chelsea’s Grand Pavilion. The produce was all UK-grown, and all sourced from NFU members.

Among the items on display were Enoki mushrooms, Flavorino vine tomatoes and different-coloured peppers - purples and oranges - pink and white aubergines, and several kinds of potato, strawberries, lilies and fuchsias.

Visitors are even promised a chance to take home a piece of the dispay, with a sell-off on Saturday at 4pm. A Chelsea tradition, the display was sold out in an hour in 2006 as the public rushed to sample the best of British produce.

The garden was designed by Chelsea veteran Penny Riley, who has over 20 medals under her belt.

The cubes of differing heights were said to represent ‘growth, modernism and security’.
