Globalisation is topping the agenda at the fifth edition of international apple trade show Interpoma 2006, to be held in Bolzana, Itlay, from November 9-11.
The Apple in the Globalized World conference, organised by the Department of Agriculture of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, the South Tyrol Apple Consortium and the Bolzano Exhibition Centre, will be at the heart of the three-day event.
The trade show is a platform for communication and information for the areas of the cultivation, storage and marketing of apples.
Interpoma 2004 had almost 800 conference participants, and over 8000 visitors.
Kurt Werth, a fruit-growing expert from South Tyrol, said: “The Interpoma conference will begin with the leading topic, ‘The Apple in the Globalized World’.
“Various speakers will comment on the cultivation, storage, consumption, and marketing of apples throughout the world.
“While the global situation will be outlined in the opening talk, the second lecture will focus more closely on the situation in Europe. ‘Living with Low Prices and Changes in European Consumer Behaviour’ will discuss daily business in the European apple market.
“We have invited a speaker from the World Trade Organisation (WHO) who will speak about the perspectives of apple cultivation within the framework of WHO negotiations.
“The Interpoma conference will be held in three languages, offering the possibility of inviting speakers from all over the world.
“We want to address all those interested throughout the world who are active in the production, storage and marketing of apples.”
