Preliminary speakers have been lined up for the first Global Berry Congress, to take place in London on May 15-16.

Oscar Verges of FreshRoyal is set to explain how a major Spanish producer and exporter has formed a partnership with a leading European retailer and a green lobby group to market berries more effectively to Europe’s environmentally conscious consumers.

Ian Ferguson, chief scientist at HortResearch, David Johnston of Well-Pict European and Nicholas Marston of BerryGardens will debate developing better berries, and UK dietician Amanda Ursell will also take to the floor.

Other speakers lined up are Christian Carvajal of Asoex, the Chilean exporters’ association, and Edward Garner of TNS Worldpanel. UK immigration minister Liam Byrne has been invited to address delegates on the looming labour crisis in the berry sector.
