Traders and market staff met at the Old Fruit Market at Candleriggs to celebrate

Traders and authorities at Glasgow wholesale market gathered to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the market and the signing of the contract for its refurbishment earlier this month.

Market staff and board members joined wholesalers on December 4 for an afternoon of speeches and awards as the market’s inhabitants look forward to its £6.5 million revamp.

The two family businesses still in the family’s hands, D McLeod and Sons Ltd and WAA Eddie Ltd, garnered the honours at the ceremony, also attended by past president Walter Martin.

The awards were accepted by Calum McLeod of D McLeod and Sons Ltd, which traded in the old market in Candleriggs in 1924, prior to moving to Blochairn Road, and Jim Eddie of WAA Eddie Ltd, which traded in the fish market at Briggait since 1925, prior to moving to Blochairn.
