Cancer campaigners are calling on the fresh produce industry to get fruity.
World Cancer Research Fund is asking the industry to lend its support to Fruity Friday, a national awareness campaign to promote the importance of healthy diets and lifestyles in the fight against cancer.
A special launch will be held on May 9 at Speakers Corner in Hyde Park, London, and the charity is inviting companies and staff in the area to come along and join in the fun by dressing up as fruit and vegetables.
Asda suppliers International Produce has provided the outfits for those looking to dress up, but the charity is also calling on other companies with their own outfits to join in.
Andrew Trehearne, head of education at WCRF UK, said: “We’re aiming to get as many people dressed as fruit and vegetables as possible at the start of Cancer Prevention Week.”
Fruity Friday will be the highlight of the week and will encourage people, particularly children, to eat more fruit as part of a healthier 5-a-day diet.
Anyone wishing to take part can contract Trehearne on 0207 343 4200.
