FPJ is sad to announce the death of Geoff Wells, aged 84.
Wells was the president of the Liverpool Wholesale Fresh Produce Association for over 30 years, since 1978, and had been a vocal campaigner for the redevelopment of the city's fruit and veg wholesale market. He passed away after a short illness.
Chris Dobin of the market's tenants' association, said: 'A new market would be Geoff's final legacy to the association and planning for one is something we will ironically be discussing this week (21 August).
'Geoff served the association as president for some 30 years, and in that time devoted himself to the welfare and interests of our members; he will be greatly missed by his many friends here and in the fruit trade.'
Plans for a £40 million investment in the city's wholesale market, and the opening of a new food hub at the Edge Lane fruit and veg market, were announced by Liverpool City Council back in April.
Wells is survived by his wife Pat, son John and daughter Susan.
