Portsmouth’s commercial port has teamed up with Geest to aid the people of Haiti.

Six months after the earthquake that devastated the Caribbean country shipping containers full of essential supplies have arrived in the country direct from the Hampshire port.

So far five 40 foot dry containers and two 20ft dry containers of supplies have been sent, reports The News.

Port managers were keen to help charities get the hospital aid to Haiti and contents have ranged from clothing and anaesthetist machines to mobile beds and blankets.

Captain Peter Dixon of Geest Line the company was “delighted” to take part in the relief and rebuilding effort in this way and that shipments are ongoing.

They normally go back to the Caribbean with general freight for the region and charities were keen to get their supplies onboard.
