Specialists from Argentinean certification body Iram spoke to delegates at the seminar about the reasons for the emergence of the Eurep-Gap programme. They also explained the importance of meeting its standards for integrated production in order to supply some of the largest retailers in Europe.

The seminar was hosted by the Tucumán citrus association (ATC), which also organised a technical tour this week for its growers around the coastal Corrientes area. The aim was to allow ATC members to see at first hand studies being carried out by scientists at the Corrientes station of national research agency Inta to control pests and disease and thereby improve citrus-fruit quality.

'We all know that the only way forward for the lemon sector is to produce export-quality fruit,' said ATC president Enrique Prado.
