Garlic wins over Expo judges

The Really Garlicky Company has been voted winner in two categories of Food and Drink Expo’s 2008 ‘Ideas to Dine For’ Awards. The company’s Eazy Garlic won the award in the fresh fruit and vegetables category, and its Really Garlicky Butter won the award in the dairy category.

Eazy Garlic consists of 16 clove-size frozen portions of 100 per cent crushed Scottish garlic, with no added preservatives. The company will be exhibiting at the show from April 6 to 9, where samples of the winning products and new products will be available at stand J208.

A winner from each of the 12 categories will go through to the Supreme Champion Final to be judged at the NEC, Birmingham on Monday April 7.

The 2008 judging panel consisted of industry experts, food writers and journalists, including celebrity chef Silvena Rowe, which picked out the winners from hundreds of products. The Really Garlicky Company’s cordon bleu cook Gilli Allingham said: “We are thrilled to have won two categories and very much look forward to exhibiting at Food and Drink Expo.”

Launched in 2001, the Really Garlicky Company pioneered the growing of garlic in Scotland. It grows Porcelain Hardneck garlic, which is closely related to wild garlic, with large cloves, easy-to-peel skin and a sweet smooth flavour. The Really Garlicky Company grows garlic on a farm in the Highlands of Scotland.
