Fyffes this morning announced it has made two more large investments in fruit firms, following last week’s Medicitrus deal.

After announcing its acquisition of Medicitrus (freshinfo, August 24), Fyffes has today stated it has bought the 50 per cent of Danish fresh produce company Lembcke which it did not already own for €16.8m.

The Irish giant bought half of Lembcke in 1993. The firm is one of Denmark's biggest fruit and vegetable distribution companies. Founded in 1923, it supplies the multiple retail and wholesale sectors in Denmark. Headquartered in Copenhagen, the group employs more than 245 people.

In 2005, Lembcke recorded net profit before tax of €5.8m.

In a busy week of anouncements, Fyffes has also bought 100 per cent of Interbanan and Valby Bananimport for a total of €6m.

On the Danish deal, Fyffes chairman Carl McCann said: “We look forward to the continuing of our long relationship with the Lembcke family and all the people who operate this excellent cost efficient business."
