FTA publishes new guide

The Freight Transport Association’s (FTA) annual International Road Transport Guide has been published, providing essential information for UK-based operators about the countries of the EU and those outside it that are most frequently visited by them.

The guide uses country profiles to equip the transport manager with the information needed to avoid unanticipated delays and deal effectively with roadside enforcement.

It also provides operators with more general information, such as ferry routes for planning journeys, guidance on the rules relating to domestic freight activity in another state and advice on customs procedures and security.

Don Armour, the FTA’s international manager and editor of the guide, said: “International road transport operators often face confusing sets of local and national regulations that they do not encounter in the UK, including weekend bans, local weight restrictions and city centre bans linked to low emissions.

“What with different processes and penalties for dealing with tachograph and drivers’ hours infringements, roadworthiness issues and inappropriate loading of the vehicle in each country, this guide should become an indispensable addition to the office.”
