The agency has announced a consultation document Getting to Grips with Grub which it has issued in an attempt to identify the knowledge and skills 14-16 year olds need to help them eat a healthy balanced diet.

The document has been issued jointly with the Department for Education and Skills and both organisations are inviting comment by October 21. The agency is concerned that young people in this age group have the key competencies to feed themselves safely and nutritiously once they become fully independent. The document addresses issues such as seasonality of fresh produce, and knowledge of cooking methods and storage.
