The Food Standards Agency has reviewed its strategy to 2015 and identified six main outcomes as well a renewed focus on sustainable development. “There is limited robust data on what constitutes sustainable food but this is an important issue,” the strategy reads. “…we will work with sustainability expoerts to make progress on this new agenda and build the necessary evidence base, coherent policy responses and advice to consumers…we will also…develop more understanding of the interaction of climate change with food safety.”
Lord Rooker, chair of the agency also committed to taking action on food safety and food fraud and acting transparently, relying on science, being evidence-based and acting independently.
The six main outcomes behind the agency’s strategic objective of ensuring safer food for the nation are effective regulation, effective enforcement, safe UK-produced food, safe imported food, the supply chain gives priority to consumer interests in relation to food and that consumers have the information and understanding to make informed choices.
