Maritime Cargo Services (MCS) has been appointed as the nominated agent for UK customs clearance and forwarding by South African exporter Fruitways.

The Suffolk-based freight forwarder has invested “heavily” in own state-of-the-art freight management and online tracking technology and in specialist customs and operations teams; one of whom has been dedicated to the refrigerated container market for more than 15 years.

MCS founder and ceo, Rob Shelley said the company had enjoyed “double digit growth” in recent years despite the recession.

Shelley said: “We’re absolutely thrilled about our new partnership with Fruitways. They are a hugely important South African fresh fruit exporter and, as such, are a fantastic example of our overseas business expansion strategy in action.

“We have been pursuing an aggressive development plan with regard to our international client base and are looking to establish commercial relationships with the leading players in several key regions around the world.”

Stephan Viljoen, logistics manager at Fruitways, added: “Having a hard earned reputation as one of South Africa’s leading exporters of apples and pears, we are very careful about the companies we partner with.

“However, we’ve been impressed with MCS. They have provided us with what we consider a winning combination; bespoke freight management and online tracking technology matched with a highly personal approach to customer service. We’re looking forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship.”
