Fruiterers learn of Hadlow triumph

The fruiterers have always been anxious to cement relationships with Liveries who share similar interests. A visit on June 12 to Hadlow College was the first in what is hoped will be a sequence of many co-operations.

Hadlow College, situated in the heart of Kent, is a centre of academic achievement in the field of horticultural pursuits and associated disciplines. It was incorporated in the early 1990s with government support, but unfortunately went through somewhat of a decline towards the end of that decade, said Mark Lumsdon-Taylor, director of finance and resources, pictured, as he greeted a visiting group of Fruiterers. Fortunately, the situation has reversed through the investment of £7 million and the dedication of the team. The college operates through three centres at Hadlow, Canterbury and Mottingham. It is looking for even greater glories through the investment of £8m during the current financial year.

Boasting one of the largest glasshouse complexes in the educational world, Hadlow is investing in such infrastructure to research and assist in production techniques, to afford work placements, training and expertise for City markets and business in general and to actively seek support in training funds.

After a conclusion from college principal Paul Holland, thanks were provided by the Master Gardener and a tour ensued of some of the many projects the college is undertaking.
