The president of the National Fruit Show has been made a CBE.
Michael Jack has been bestowed with the honour in the Queen's New Year Honours list for services to tax policy.
The Kent-born former MP is currently the chairman of the Office of Tax Simplification, and previously served as financial secretary to the Treasury between 1995 and 1997.
Jack declared himself 'overwhelmed and delighted' by the news, but told FPJ that the honour reflects the 'hard work' of those who work alongside him.
Beyond his role as president of the National Fruit Show, Jack has experience of the fresh produce industry having worked as merchandising manager for salads at Marks & Spencer in the mid-1970s, before becoming fresh produce director at the now-defunct M&S-supplying LO Jeffs.
On top of that, during his time in parliament, Jack was chairman of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee.
A Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) is awarded to those who have made a distinguished, innovative contribution to any area.
