The industry’s largest trade show, Fruit Logistica, is expected to set new records for exhibitors in 2009.

The Berlin event will host more than 2,200 exhibitors (up from 2,115 last year) from 79 countries (68 countries in 2008).

Exhibitors from Gambia, Guinea, the Comoros, Croatia, Lebanon and Uzbekistan will be participating in the event for the first time.

The largest participations at the event will be from European countries, with Italy, Spain, Germany, France and the Netherlands topping the list. Chile is this year's official Fruit Logistica partner country for the 2009 event, which is being staged in Berlin for the 17th time since 1993.

The 28th Fresh Produce Forum, where the key focus will be on ‘The future structure of trade - from production to the point of sale’, precedes the opening ceremony from Ilse Aigner, German federal minister of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection.

Exhibition space for Fruit Logistica 2009 is up almost 10 per cent on last year, with an area of 88,000 m2 (2008: 81,000m2) covering Halls 1 to 25 on the yellow level along with Halls 1.1, 3.1 and 4.1, on the red level.

The world of fresh produce, from global players to companies operating at all levels of the value chain will be meeting at the Berlin exhibition grounds from 4- 6 February.
