Fruit Logistica packs them in

Key players in the international fresh produce industry are expected to flock to Berlin this week for this year's edition of Fruit Logistica.

Boasting double-digit growth figures, the annual trade exhibition summit taking place for the fifteenth time since 1993, is hoping to set new attendance records. The world's leading international trade fair for fruit and vegetable marketing will host 1,867 exhibitors from 74 countries, compared with 1,611 exhibitors and 64 countries last year. Representatives from all levels of the supply chain will gather on an area covering 72,000 sqm - 10,000sqm larger than 2006.

Some 40,000 top-level decision makers from 110 countries are expected to attend, with 86 per cent of the exhibitors coming from outside of Germany.

Christian Göke, managing director of Fruit Logistica’s organiser Messe Berlin, said: “The Fruit Logistica trademark is an international seal of approval and the event itself is a fixed date on the calendars of industry leaders.”

Messe Berlin’s trademark event is set to expand this year, with the first Asia Fruit Logistica scheduled to take place in September, in Bangkok. And speaking at yesterday's opening press conference in Berlin, Göke announced plans for a new fresh produce trade fair scheduled for next year.

“Parallel to Fruit Logistica 2008, Messe Berlin will be presenting FreshConex as a separate marketing platform for the fresh-cut and convenience product sector,” he said. “This rapidly growing industry segment complements Fruit Logistica perfectly.”
