freshinfo discount for new potato pest book

A colour handbook on pests and diseases faced by the sector is to be launched in May.

Stuart Wale, head of crop services at SAC Aberdeen, has teamed up with Bud Platt, from the Crops and Livestock Research Centre in Charlottetown, Canada, to write Pests and Diseases of Potatoes - A Colour Handbook to support growers and enable fast identification of problems.

The book covers the most important pathogens, providing clear, concise descriptions of the symptoms and cycles of diseases, their distribution and economic importance, as well as advice on their control.

The text is illustrated with some 250 colour photographs of affected crops to aid the rapid identification of disease.

The book features ‘pest profiles’ that identify, with the use of colour photographs, the pests that commonly prey on potato crops.

It is aimed at professionals and students working in crop protection, plant pathology and agriculture, including growers, and comes in a handy size for practical use.

The pests and diseases covered include early blight, gray mould, black dot, ring rot, Blackleg, roft rot, pit rot, dry rot and wilt, violet root rot, and silver scurf, as well as witches broom, pocket rot, gangrene, pink rot and late blight, to name a few.
