The Freshfel working group ‘Promotion’ has held its first meeting in Brussels and was chaired by Laurence Swan of Fyffes.

Delegates from the UK, Spain, France, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands exchanged experiences regarding the organisation and contents of generic promotion campaigns for fruit and vegetables around Europe.

Also discussed were previous EU co-financed programmes for the promotion of fresh produce on the internal market and in third countries.

The working group has recommended that Freshfel should continue its research on existing generic promotion schemes for fruit and vegetables across Europe. The group also urged the Freshfel secretariat to continue its efforts to compile statistical information on the consumption levels of fruit and vegetable in Europe.

The group will next meet at the end of March.
